Everybody loves a Friday and here at Follies we appreciate how tricky it can sometimes be to make it to the end of the working week.  This time of year seems to be harder than others ~ the weather is so changeable, we can have a sudden frosty morning when its so hard to drag yourself out of bed, and then another morning gives us a bright warm start to the day that you find yourself standing in front of your wardrobe for far too much time trying to fathom what to wear on these crazy autumn days!

It's all about the layers & comfort for your body and the same goes for your home, showing it a little love & getting it ready for some snuggling down. Fill the corners with pretty lighting, even take out the Christmas lights a little early ~ nothing better than having  an impromptu dance around the living room with a pretty glass twinkling in your hand. Get those corners of the sofa ready, with a few lovely blankets & cushions, and start layering up your home with comfort.

Start collecting a mixed up range of vintage glassware for a warming tipple or two & a well earned Friday night cocktail.

Sundays this time of year are perfect for lazy mornings enjoying tea & toast in bed ~ make sure you have some pretty mismatched china to enjoy it from, if you're going to spill crumbs in the bed, do it in style. There's still a few blackberries in the hedgerows, so after a hearty walk, there's nothing like enjoying a homemade pie ~ we have some beautiful serving plates & delightful pressed glassware to pour a custard, a cream, a dream.

End of Summer

It's been a wonderful few weeks at Follies.  At the beginning of July on a beautiful summer's evening,  the good & glamorous of Norwich were out in full force on Bridewell Alley to enjoy the opening of the exhibition of Behind the Boosh at Flint next door & enjoy a few glasses of Follies Fizz in celebration of our first birthday. 

We also had the Norwich Lanes Arts Trail with the wonderful Lucy Loveheart exhibiting her work here at Follies.  Lucy is a local artist and her work sits well within a Follies setting.  Her work will be on view until the beginning of September and there are prints available to buy too. 

Here is her most recent piece, titled 'Midsummer's Night Follies', the original is on view in our window and limited edition prints are available.

Follies is looking really lovely, with the courtyard open and all the beautiful vintage & eclectic stock on show.  It's been wonderful to be able to put some of our things for sale outside without too much fear of rain.  The Rosa Bloom bloomers & sequin leggings have looked amazing, sparkling in the sunshine. It's also been lovely to enjoy the wonderful chalk art that was kindly done for us by Georgie Matthews, chalk & graphic artist.









As we head towards the end of the summer holidays we're offering a 10% discount off of all our vintage stock until the end of August.  Pop in & pick up something pretty for yourself or as a gift.  We'd love to see you.

Follies First Birthday Celebrations

It’s been twelve months since Follies first opened their pale green door onto Bridewell Alley.  Follies have had a wonderful first year of great trade and fantastic local support and have fast become the prettiest shop on The Norwich Lanes for buying your vintage style homewares & gifts. 

On Friday 6^th July, in celebration of our first birthday, Follies will be having a small soiree with all sorts of delights & treats. 

The evening will include a special private viewing of works by Lucy Loveheart, exhibiting at Follies as part of the Norwich Lanes Art Trail. Lucy Loveheart – International artist, illustrator and designer has produced a wonderful range of paintings, prints, children’s books, giftware and fabrics, many of which have since become collectors items. Lucy has developed her distinctively naive style into highly sought after and recognisable products.

We will also have another artist with us ~ Georgie Matthews, a highly talented calligrapher & chalk lettering artist who also incidently created the Follies logo and the sweet little illustrations we use on our packaging.  It is with great pleasure that Georgie will be joining us for our special evening to produce an original & unique piece of chalk art in celebration of Follies first year.  Georgie will be creating a  live art installation through the evening ~ you’ll be able to watch her as she works, designing & completing an original artwork in chalk which will then be on view for the Norwich Lanes Arts Trail as part of this year’s Norwich Lanes Summer Fayre.

We will also be holding a very special raffle, including lots of wonderful prizes & treats in aid of Stonham Women’s Refuge, a locally run charity which offer sanctuary and support to women fleeing domestic abuse.  Tickets are available now. Follies emphasis is on finding the old & bringing in the new, mixing up the recycled, revamped & responsibly sourced.  A fresh mix of vintage finds, locally sourced stock and globally made products. 

Owner, Lolly, loves to recycle beautiful and useful pieces and bring them to you at affordable prices, mixing them with high quality new wares to delight & inspire you ~ perfect for your own home or as a thoughtful gift for a friend.  

At Follies you’ll find lovely pieces of furniture, carefully handpicked, some left to show their original beauty whilst others have been restored to enjoy a new lease of modern living. Some of our vintage wares maybe a little worn, but that just adds to their charm and our other recycled products are refreshingly quirky and have plenty of zeal to brighten up even the greyest of days. All mixed in harmoniously with our new stock, Follies is a spirit lifting little shop filled with a lovely blend of the old & the new.

 Nestled in the middle of Bridewell Alley  on The Lanes, along with other  great independent traders, cafes & interesting shops ~ Follies is a joyful little building whose aim is to please, an inspirational find you’ll want to visit all the time. From elegant china and delicate glassware to vintage textiles, revamped furniture and new timeless discoveries, we sell only what we take great pleasure in and hope you will too.

Every item has been cherry picked as things we truly love ourselves, make us laugh, let us dream. We invest our time & energy in sourcing unusual & beautifully made items that have the quality that often only comes with vintage and antique pieces.
